Oil on linen painting by Jane Coffey inspired by the changing light and spinifex of Karijini National Park. Currently available to view at Future Shelter Gallery & Store.

The view over looking Weano, Red, Hancock and Joffre Gorges. This painting explores how a change of focus, from only looking at one small point in the landscape as opposed to taking in the whole expansive view at once,  changes our experience of the landscape. Sometimes your gaze is brought into focus on contrasting textures of rocks and trees, sometimes more focused on the general expanse of contrasting light. I wanted to keep some areas less detailed and more about the sweeping lines and blended colours you experience as you eye travels across from left to right and from the horizon to the depth of the gorge. Karijini offers views that are almost too much for our eye to take in and I wanted to capture feeling within this painting.

Karijini NP is the traditional home of the Banyjima, Kurrama and Innawonga Aboriginal people.
