Painting by Jane Coffey inspired by the changing light and spinifex of the Pilbara region that contrasts with the iron ore trains that cut through the landscape between Millstream and Karijini National Park 2023. Currently available to view at Future Shelter Gallery & Store.

The Pilbara is a place of extremes. The pale coloured spinifex contrasts against the intense and saturated colours of iron oxide in the ranges between Millstream and Karijini. This painting is primarily about exploring the exquisite light of the ancient Pilbara landscape but also explores the contrasting elements of it’s more recent history. The ancient landscape is cut through by the iron ore train, carrying geological elements of the landscape away as a commodity. They may return in the future as steel, perhaps even as part of the next train.

Karijini NP is the traditional home of the Banyjima, Kurrama and Innawonga Aboriginal people.
